Hello there and welcome to my blog; I’m author and professor Dr. Daniel Smith-Rowsey. The MAP in MAPtothefuture.com is an acronym: M is for media/movies, A is for autism, and P is for populism. Here I produce weekly words about these subjects. As for “To The Future,” in 2017 I am self-publishing a novel about the future called “The War For Mars United” – every week brings a new chapter.
I’ve spent my adult lifetime studying and practicing media and forms of populism, including completing three feature films (as director) and a doctorate in Film and American Studies. My book Blockbuster Performances: Why Acting Matters More Than Spectacle will be published by Palgrave MacMillan later in 2017. My and Kevin McDonald’s 2016 edited collection, The Netflix Effect: Technology and Entertainment in the 21st Century, is available here. My 2013 book, published by Palgrave MacMillan, is called Star Actors in the Hollywood Renaissance: Representing Rough Rebels, and is available here. My 2013 novel, a sort of teenage DaVinci Code about cyber-bullying, is called The Yearbook, and is available here. My latest feature, which won a Silver Screen Award from the Nevada Film Festival, can be seen here. My latest short film, a sort-of sequel to “Hamilton,” can be seen here. My 7-year-old son is entirely non-verbal, afflicted with severe autism. I hope he can read this someday; when I’m gone, it will be my legacy to him and his brother. You can email me privately at danielsmithrowsey@yahoo.com, friend me on facebook (I’m the only one with my name), and/or follow me on twitter @smithrowsey.
